Jayne’s story
unleshing the lioness
heres a short clip showing what a difference a few lessons in real self defence can make
http://www.youtube.com/v/zxrvYCyacC0&rel=0
The is a look at the training of one woman from early on when she first started first lesson to the point that shes got all the basics for real self defence, the time difference cover's about 12 months and 15 lessons, you can see how at the end the lioness was released
One of her biggest problems was getting used to the effects of fear/adrenalin, when the body’s in fight or flight mode its ready to fight or run thinking about it at that point often causes a freeze, the last thing you want to be doing in a violent situation.
It’s important to this and get it out of the way in training, the more familiar you are with your techniques the more the response becomes more automatic more instinctive, another part she struggled with was the anger and aggression, one reason being is she was always taught to be polite, and never to show that side, this aggression and anger is a part of all of us once you understand how to latch on to it and it becomes automatic.
overkill? Well that depends on the situation,
imagine she’s in a house she wakes up with someone coming at her in a bedroom, she might get a good strike in that’s enough to escape maybe in a street, but what if she’s got to unlock the door and also get her two babes to safety sometimes people need to be stopped so an escape can be safely made, in a situation like this waiting for the cops just isn’t going to cut it
Note:this is a short edit from the older jaynes story clips

Evening mate
I`ve only just watched Jaynes clips in full and it`s amazing to see her go from being really quite timid to someone who can turn it on when required.
She`s visibly standing more confidently by the last clips, even in the garage when just listening and thats all down to your training.
Not wishing to make you big headed but I`m also finding it slightly easier in work to state my case against people who are aggressive, and it`s bizarre how naturally I`m bringing my hands up when they approach.
I had a charming chap on the phone today talking a load of conkers and I let him run out of steam then just said `are you ready to listen now?` and explained what was going on. He`s never likely to be a close friend but I felt miles better for doing it. A while back I`d have got the phone call over as soon as possible and spent days wishing I`d said something.
Good stuff. Keep smiling and see you soon

the one thing i see again and again is a marked improvment in confidence, jayne never trained every week, and was by no means a regular student, but her technique and confidence grew through the training, with a clear difference at the end.
She still has lessons now and again, but im never happy i know if i could get her here every week for say a two month block, there would be another significant step up in her ability/confidence again, lets hope she reads this
and i know she really enjoys beating me round the head, ive still got a sore nose from the elbow at the weekend,i think she forgot i wasnt wearing the helmet!

cheers mate,
I was questioned on another forum about the ferocity of the attack
Quote
Have you heard the term "Reasonable Force"
Stamping on someones head after they are down or kneeing them in the face when they are down may land your lady friend in prison.
Garth
My thoughts are when it comes to self defence I always teach a sort of hit and run approach do what it takes until you can safely escape, hopefully the first shot will be enough but it’s very rarely that straight forward
Here’s one scenario
a drunk guy approaches her at the bus stop its dark he threatens her and comes at her aggressively she’s prepared she strikes first knocks him over with a few strikes and runs to the nearest shop, if she stayed and attack him like that I would say that was unreasonable force
Here’s a second scenario
Imagine she’s in bed she hears a noise as she gets out of bed a man burst in and attacks her, he’s probably got some sort of weapon/tool she doesn’t know why he’s here or what he’s got planned rape or murder? so now she’s fighting for her life but shes got a baby and the toddler in bedroom next door, she needs to make sure she’s got time to escape and get the kids out, find the keys etc, in a situation like that ,i would say that sort of force is totally reasonable, you have to do what it takes to survive
in the last scenario on the clip she was training to make the decision when to attack a very important part of self defence that’s often over looked and equally important is the ability to switch off when the jobs done. I also told her to put herself in the house with the kids in the other room and make sure she didn’t stop until the threat was nullified and in my eyes she did a very good job
with the two different senarios the real difference is time taken to escape that needs to be taken into consideration,
Hope this helps

It all looked somewhat complaint to me
my reply,
I think I was pretty compliant there as well, you’ve got to turn the heat up a lot more to see if what you’re doing really works.
but everybody’s got to start somewhere. I tend to use a few different ways like keeping the arms in or grabbing and holding and or striking. Get confident enough and I’m more than willing to turn the heat up
but that’s also the beauty of hitting first I think if you hit hard enough by surprise then the attacker should have no choice but try to defend once the attack was launched or "kiss the pavement" as Moi might say?
I do think some of the stamps were pushy as well and I wouldn’t say that she was striking really hard but hard enough especially with the mindset switched on, it really makes all the difference in my eyes
I actually recommend stamping on the ankle or knee if you have to but everybody’s got a little artistic licence and nothings set in stone she thought that the threat was enough to make sure the job was finished and she had enough time to escape. This was also a test for the helmet I was developing and after feeling the weight of her stamps and the bend in the helmet, id say a good stamp off a bigger guy would probably break it and these were the only stamps i ever allowed on the helmet.
I also mention how she had to use it once in an incident at work successfully,it could have turned out a lot worse
