Personally if I were you I'd look into the likes of Kelly McCann. He's one of the people who teaches what I consider the REAL deal.

Before you do,don't forget to...

A/ Move to a country that allows you to carry a weapon.

B/ Appreciate that empty hands are only to be used as a distraction/delay to get to your firearm/knife/gas.

In the U.K. we dont get the 'trust' as individuals to walk about armed. Well, the bad guys do,but then they don't care.

So what's the only option for us?

A/ Stay in 24/7 in a dark room.

B/ Have yourself a personal police officer with you 24/7. Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy

C/ Train to develop a body weapon to the point that Dennis and other streetfighters have.

D/ Fuck laws, carry a weapon and spend the rest of your life in prison(and then wish you had worked on that body weapon!) Grin

Whilst I think McCann is good,I don't see his stuff as much use to a person in an 'un-armed society'.

I think without sounding offensive..the power in hand strikes in Grover doesn't even come close to that of Dennis.Just my opinion Smiley

Martyn.

Ain't the internet brilliant. Feast on this,
Edwin Valero, life ended tragically this year. Who knows what he would have achieved

Remember Khaosai Galaxy? Southpaw wrecking machine. Some commentators had him down as arrogant, I reject this. The Thais seem to fight at 'Thai' rhythm and there is a kind of inevitability, or 'matter of factness', to their style; as a people Thais are very respectful.

Here's a great ko from Shane Moseley. This is particularly enjoyable because Margarito had earlier 'beaten' Cotto with loaded gloves. Something old school about Moseley, he can sense the kill and demolishes Margarito. Fair do's to Margarito though, head of granite.

superb clips there rob, what an awesome fighter he was.

I didn`t used to like ali messing about and mouthing off but from those clips you can see he could certainly back up what he said, its a wonder shavers didn`t kill someone the way he sent them reeling.

he worked at Yates in liverpool and was one of the smiliest people on earth, signing photos for people and supporting any local charities when asked. Even when a very drunk bloke from airbus - not me this time - was asking him for a dead arm he was utter class and just said `man, the pain would kill you, I can`t have that on my conscience`and cuddled him.

right up there with the top heavyweights of all time in my opinion.

Sick digs. How the fuck did Ali stay on his feet? I saw Shavers on the door in Liverpool a few years back. He's a nice bloke.

Absolutely bloody wrong in all ways. I would imagine he`ll enjoy each and every minute of his time inside and be a very welcome addition to the showers.

Amen to that!

Hi Rob,

The open hand is still my favourite option for self defence and still at the very top of my list and I still train it and I find it’s still the best option for teaching basic combatives, I can get people hitting much harder and quicker with it, I find it’s much more natural.

Here’s where I’m up to now

After a never ending search and some hard training(some with you), I noticed Dennis Jones punching and open hand on a woma clip...so to cut a long story short, I got in touch and basically Dennis showed me how to hit significantly harder than any other style I had tried. This was with my slap (bearpaw) and the palm heel, the basic body mechanics were the same for his(Dennis’s) punching as well and I taught it to one or two of the guys who liked to punch.

There still a much bigger percentage of guys still out there that use punching  for self defence. With Dennis also being a very experienced street puncher it was an ideal opportunity to get expert advice. It was only in October/November last years I started training in punching to get a better understanding of what I was teaching, and expands on what was already training. So along with the combatives, I could teach more power striking, open hand, bare knuckle, gloved side as well, which is and has always been one of my biggest interests.

What I’ve found since I started punching is a much better understanding of impact which has also helped me to take the open hand to another level as well, so it’s good news all round.
Just on a side note, I also realised just how experienced Dennis is, and his understand of violence and street fighting and working as a doorman, and just how knowledgeable and honest he was. So the power striking is just a small part of what a he had to offer, and the quality was just as good as the striking he first showed me ,which is top class

Hope this helps Wink

it amazed me, it really did. I was on the wrong end of the police in chester a long while back but had been fighting and was as pissed as a rat and wouldn`t go in the cell so they were as rough as they needed to be to get me in the cell. I was bruised the next day but would imagine a couple of them were too and top marks the desk sergeant in the morning showed me what I was being charged with - and what they could charge me with if I wanted to make a complaint. Not ideal perhaps but I believe I was in a very fair situation and they didn`t go over the top. And that`s coming from the dick on the receiving end.

But this lady was 59 years old, 5 foot 2 and was getting thrown round like a jumper on a washing line by a 6 foot 3 ex army copper. Absolutely bloody wrong in all ways. I would imagine he`ll enjoy each and every minute of his time inside and be a very welcome addition to the showers.
